People ask all the time how they can help the Douglass dance program. Here's your chance! We have grown significantly and enrollment has well surpassed our stock of supplies. The link below is for Donor's Choose raising $4,154 for 88 pairs of dance shoes. One pair ranges from $31-$38. The Donor's Choose web site told me I should remove some items to reduce the goal by $1,000 to have a better chance of getting funding, but I have a feeling we can prove them wrong.

I am hoping to have 2-3 volunteers come to my 7th hour class (1:30-2:35pm) once a month to talk about their experience at Frederick A. Douglass High School. I would love for my students to hear stories about bussing, the wonderful things that happened in the 125 years of history of Douglass, and why education was and is so valuable. My hope is that these volunteers will inspire the students to honor the efforts of those who came before them so that they can see the importance in their own…Continue

There are two big questions in regard to the KIPP plan for taking over the Martin Luther King Elementary School building. I’ve focused on the first issue of whether it would be possible for KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) to provide high-quality pre-kindergarten and elementary education for an entire neighborhood. Since Oklahoma City’s KIPP has never attempted such a task, the organization should have been willing to answer some…

Douglass High School students took the podium to hold their own press conference, saying they are worried over how their school is treated by the Oklahoma City Public School District. The students collectively decided to shed some light on what they feel their school is lacking, and how it is directly affecting their…Continue

Please contact the OKCPS Athletic Director Keith Sinor at 405 587-0049 and let
him know we want our old scoreboard back. Due to budget cuts the stadium and
field names will not added to the board that was installed by OKCPS. We understand
that and are asking that our old scoreboard that listed the stadium and field names,
that was in good working order be brought back and installed on the football field.

As alumni of Frederick A. Douglass High School our participation in these discussions is critical. We need to hear the proposal, ask questions, and get answers. We must be engaged in the process.
